Sensory Babies Secret Garden - week 4's Theme!
By looka_production_106039223 15 Mar, 2023
Our sensory babies went over the rainbow last Thursday where they learned baby sign for different colours, got those eye muscles working with our lovely rainbow ribbons and explored the cause and effect concept with our lovely bright coloured xylophone. Babies laid under the multi-coloured parachute and chased our lovely primary coloured beach ball around, watching beautiful reflective bubbles fall around them. Babies only see black and white as newborns with their eyes quickly developing to take in the lovely bright primary colours found in our play space this week, usually showing a preference for yellow and red initially. Hannah also introduced the concept of single colour sensory play this week- encouraging parents to take a coloured back drop and find household items and toys to match. This improves baby’s focus and depth perception as well as being able to introduce colour vocabulary. Let us know if you give it a go!

Week two fell on World Book Day! Where we had lots of snuggly fun reading together. The babies loved the lift the flap books and the lovely textured pages kept our crawlers interested. By the age of one your baby has every individual sound in their repertoire to speak their native language- how incredible is that?! Reading to them is a fantastic way of expanding their vocabulary, allowing baby to hear lots of different sounds and words and encourages literacy from the youngest age possible. Our lovely jingle bells made an appearance, building on that cause and effect concept introduced weekly and our little ones enjoyed the lovely chiffon scarfs- playing peekaboo and encouraging those eye muscles to track and follow the lovely bright colours! We also experimented with smelling lovely fresh rosemary sprigs- some babies loved this while others weren’t so keen! Babies have their likes and dislikes just like us, but if your baby does enjoy rosemary scents, this is supposed to encourage concentration, focus and and relaxation!
